Minimum Exposure Digital X-rays
Dental X-rays are a valuable tool that our trained staff relies on. These x-rays allow us to safely see any dental abnormalities that may be underneath the gum lines or in between the teeth. By being able to see a more complete picture of a patient’s oral health we can create a targeted treatment plan.
Are Dental X-Rays Safe?
Many people are concerned about the level of radiation that they will be exposed to during dental x-rays. While dental x-rays are considered safe due to their low level of radiation (a full set of dental x-rays equals the same amount of radiation a person is exposed to during a normal day) we take precautions to help minimize the exposure. We always place a lead apron over your body along with using modern x-ray film that cuts down exposure time, to ensure you are exposed to the least amount possible.
How Often Do I Need Dental X-Rays?
Dr. Gurinsky will go over your oral health history to determine how often you will need x-rays taken. For all our new patients we recommend getting a full set of x-rays and then we generally update those once every three years. During your routine dental visits, we will often take x-rays of your top and bottom teeth biting down to check for any new dental issues.
Why Do I Need Dental X-Rays?
Dental x-rays allow us to see issues that may not otherwise be visible. By finding dental problems early on you can save time and money getting your oral hygiene back on track. Below is a sample of what could be revealed via x-rays:
- Bone Loss
- Cysts
- Decay between teeth
- Poor root positions
- Problems below the gumline or inside the tooth
- Tumors
